Heinz has been going kind of nuts with their use of the big squeeze bottle’s real estate on the label. I commend their labels that support troops, sending a string message while reinforcing a good ole American product image, and I’m glad they are engaging the consumer in their effort to reduce waste and raise awareness. But this level of conspicuous conservation is too ostentatious and self-satisfied for my tastes.
Even if is do like the taste of Heinz.

No, sorry, that’s not right. A New York Times story today reports that “the beverage rivals are racing to become the first to produce a plastic soda bottle made entirely from plants.” And in all sincerity I hope they both get there soon. But in a load of BS so incongruous with a century plus rivalry between two industrial giants, the piece ends with this quote from Pepsi’s VP of global beverage packaging: “We don’t feel it’s a race” Ms. Lefebvre said. “We feel like were all working together to do better for the environment and also to make good business sense.” Yeah right. I was just searching for cabinet pulls for a client (nothing like these, I assure you fair reader) and thought I’d see who’s making a break for it on Etsy when I came across these fake cupcake drawer pulls. Umm… genius and delightful? And totally grotesque? I’m not sure I’d ever be able to open a drawer for fear of messing up the icing. Shimrita says her(?) cupcakes are “handmade from scratch.” Love it. I would like to know what they’re made from to look so real, but I’m sure it’s a recipe best kept a secret. This is the best product Emilie Baltz never designed. Rock on Shimrita…
That tin flour drum on the left there is the most austere and beautiful pieces of early 20th century utilitarian graphic design I have seen in a while. I’m guessing 1930s. Shoulda checked the tag. Shoulda bought it!!
This once desolate wasteland of Brooklyn’s postwar manufacturing glory into which I moved eleven years ago is exploding with energy, creativity, food and all out party. Roberta’s Tiki Disco is pumping on Sunday nights, as can be seen from this fine photo I took out front from a safe “father’s distance” through the roll up and into the smokey debauched lair.
